Zed Rook (they/them) is an award-winning queer butch writer focusing on LGBTQ culture, trauma, embodiment, dominance, submission, spiritual kink, and transgender and nonbinary issues. They are an international leather titleholder, and they have been devoutly teaching about erotic writing, the power of queer narratives, somatic arts, and all kinds of sex and kink techniques since 2002.
Under their nom de guerre, their gender theory and queer erotica is widely published, including in Queer: A Reader for Writers; Nonbinary: Memoirs of Gender and Identity; Power, Pain, and Pleasure: Understanding BDSM Practices, Identities, & Communities, and others. They are the current editor of the Best Lesbian Erotica series, and their short story collection, Sweet & Rough: Queer Kink Erotica, was a 2016 finalist for a Lambda Literary Award.
Zed holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Creative Writing and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Washington Seattle (2005), and certificates in Sacred Intimacy Through a Tantric Lens (2012) and Embodied Social Justice (2021).
Because Zed is not a good capitalist, and tries to cultivate hobbies that are not work, they are often found playing in their journal with fountain pens, art, bullet journal layouts, and calligraphy, and they study tarot. They live uninvited on unceded Duwamish land near Seattle.
